Restoring Sublime Text Editor by Downgrading

Kali Linux as we know does come with wonderful built-in text editors such as leafpad, vim and nano (my favorite) e.t.c. However, i have a particular obsessive compulsion to use sublime text especially in web development using languages such as HTML (i don't like considering it a language), css, php and javascript.

You can download Sublime-Text into your Kali Linux, by executing:
        apt install sublime-text

That is after running apt update first.


I have been using Sublime Text for like 2 years now and i'm always loving it.

However, just last week, after a full system upgrade of my whole system, i could no longer use Sublime Text. Well, the understanding is that Sublime Text isn't exactly a free Open Source software but it just comes trial version of sorts with an undefined time limit. Cool I'd say. 

But as i turned out, my new version of Sublime Text was 3180. This new version kept on asking for a registration confirmation code which i didn't have as i hadn't bought it.

For a while i couldn't continue with some of my projects because i liked and preferred to use Sublime Text while making them. Even using Atom in my Parrot OS Sec wasn't exactly comforting.

But i did have a way of solving the problem for myself. It's this simple:

Get a new, the download not so much the version, of Sublime Text but of an older version and then downgrade. Downgrade here meaning moving from a higher version to a lower version.

Download version 3126 using the command:
        wget https://download.sublimetext.com/sublime-text_build-3126_i386.deb

Downgrade with the command:
        dpkg -i sublime-text_build-3126_i386.deb

Downgrading Sublime Text

The package manager has done everything for you and Sublime Text will launch as normally originally and can continue devving from there. Enjoy Sublime Text.
